    What made the Columbo TV show interesting was that the show revolved around Columbo solving the crime and how he used small clues to figure out who had committed the crime. Most other shows are reverse that you don't know who have committed the crime until the end of the show. Another characteristic was that Columbo was not your typical good-looking hero - in fact, he was a bit of an anti-hero because he wore his old beaten-up trenchcoat and he was not around fancy women like in other crime shows.     It is not really the detective type TV series. It was directed by William Link and Richard Levinson. The main character, for whom the series become more attracting, is Peter Falk as Lieutenant Columbo who works in the Los Angeles Police Department popularly known as LAPD.     This is not like other detective stories where the main goal is to detect the criminal. In most   of the episodes it is shown how the criminal created/did the crime and get away with it. Finally   the focus is that how the perpetrator, for a little mistake of fault is found and arrested by the police.


   Some other exciting stories were also added to make the series twistier. The character was first visible in the television-anthology series The Chevy Mystery Show in 1960 episode. It was mainly a short story partly derived from the main story written by Levinson and Link. Levinson and Link then  decided to convert the TV drama in to the stage play Prescription: Murder. Soon after that in 1968 they broadcasted it into a TV movie.
